Curfew brought forward to 8:00pm Fri. as hospital COVID cases surge

The préfet brought forward the curfew to 8:00pm starting Friday.

MARIGOT--Préfet Délégué Serge Gouteyron at a press conference Thursday afternoon brought forward the curfew for the French side to start at 8:00pm Friday evening, as the Louis-Constant Fleming Hospital activated its “White Plan” after reporting a surge in COVID cases.

The new curfew hours will remain in place until August 20. The Gendarmerie has been instructed to ensure the curfew is adhered to.

Hospital director Marie-Antoinette Lampis-Pattus disclosed there are currently 23 patients in the COVID unit, which has a capacity of 24 beds. Three of those patients are on ventilators. The White Plan permits the hospital to add eight more beds for COVID treatment.

The director stated evacuations to Guadeloupe hospitals are “not an option” at the moment as the hospitals there are saturated, but with regular communication on the status of patients in Guadeloupe, an evacuation could be possible when a patient in Guadeloupe is discharged.

The préfet said the current situation has been shared with the Dutch-side government.
