ST. EUSTATIUS--Mother and daughter Sjahairah and TaSjierni Fleming swept the Daughters of The King Foundation (DOTK) Mother and Daughter Pageant on Sunday. The duo also won Ms. and Little Ms. Popularity, awarded based on a Facebook.com voting poll one week before the show. They took the top spots in three of the five segments: Best Talent, Best Casual Wear and Best Creative Wear.
First runners-up were mother Chanella Margarita and daughter Jonandra La Pas. They also captured the Best Introduction Dance with Speech.
Second runners-up were Ms. Sophia and daughter Meliffany de Palm. They also took home the Best Evening Wear title. De Palm was awarded Little Ms Photogenic.
Jeta Patrick and daughter Savannah Gibbs were third runners-up.
Angracia Groenhart and her daughter Tiana won Best Interview.
Mother Corrinha Haynes also won Ms. Photogenic.
St. Eustatius 2016 Carnival Queen Ebony Rivers assisted DOTK Director and pageant producer Elaine Cuvalay-Jeffrey with crowning the winners.
All contestants received a medal.
The pageant aimed to bring mothers and daughters together to spend quality time and to encourage the special bond they share, said Cuvalay-Jeffrey.
Anna Rabess-Richardson of St. Maarten-based Posh Productions co-produced the pageant. Judges were Rolando Tobias, Shirmell Wilson, Vashti Hooker, Roberson Hercule and Leoncio “Private” Lopes. Charity Sam was mistress of ceremonies.
