MARIGOT--President Daniel Gibbs expressed his condolences Tuesday over the passing of former President of the Marigot Merchant’s Association, René Mathon.
"I am very saddened to learn of the death of our friend René Mathon and very sorry for his family members, his wife and children, his grandson and offer them our heartfelt condolences from each and every member of the Territorial Council of St. Martin,” Gibbs said.
“I remember René as a down to earth and faithful friend to many here. His investment in the service of our economy has been exemplary, first as a merchant and a jeweller of repute recognized by all with his brand Carat on Rue de La République, as an active member of the Chamber of Commerce and as President of the Association des Commerçants de Marigot (ACM) in which he was heavily involved.
“René Mathon distinguished himself by his professional dynamism and long-term involvement in the service of the St. Martin economy. We will also remember his extreme kindness and the always special attention he paid to each of his interlocutors. St. Martin was his island at heart, an island he loved and served with all his energy. René will always be in our hearts and minds.
“On behalf of the Territorial Council of St. Martin and on my own behalf, I reiterate my sincere condolences to his family and friends.
