PHILIPSBURG--Dion Wright-Nelson and Jeffery Tribble, Jr. of The Musicianship arrived in St. Maarten on Sunday to conduct a weeklong intensive workshop exclusively for members of Generation New Status STM drum band. Both men worked with the band during its cultural exchange trip to Washington DC in the United States in 2015.
This exchange trip was in partnership with The Musicianship, a non-profit organisation based in Washington DC that facilitates music lessons, experiences, and opportunities for nearly 1,600 youth.
Band members said they are looking forward to the workshop. Generation New Status STM band leader Youmay Dormoy said he is pleased to offer this training to his band members.
“We continue to elevate our band and we look forward to holding more workshops and band camps in the future. The Musicianship has previously expressed a desire to work with us and we are very excited to partner with them on future projects,” said Dormoy.
The workshop will be conducted this week, during the midterm school break, beginning on Monday, October 7, and ending with a performance at Maho on Friday, October 11.
Generation New Status STM thanked Holland House Beach Hotel, Shep Sheppard and the Maho Group of Companies, Debbie Milton, Marisol Wilson, Ari Sutton of Art Saves Lives Foundation, parents and band members for their support.
Persons wanting to assist the band with this workshop are asked to call Dormoy at tel. 1-721-581-2912, or send a message to the band’s Facebook page. “Your support and financial assistance are always appreciated,” he said.
