ST. EUSTATIUS--A groundbreaking ceremony for the first building of the assisted living and emergency homes project in Lodi was held on Wednesday, April 7, marking the start of construction of the project.
Five additional assisted living homes and five emergency homes will be constructed in Lodi to alleviate the housing shortage on the island.
The new homes will provide housing opportunities for elderly and disabled persons in the community. The additional homes will be constructed adjacent to the 10 existing assisted living homes at the Felicia Viola van Zanten Complex.
Deputy Government Commissioner Alida Francis, and Director Social Domain Carol Jack were present at the groundbreaking ceremony. Also on hand were owner of Merkies Construction Calvin Merkman and Managing Director of Innovative Business Solution (IBS) Carlyle Tearr. Merkman was the contractor of the Felicia Viola van Zanten Complex, which opened in 2020.
