PHILIPSBURG--Hillside Christian Schools (HCS) celebrated its 45th anniversary with the Asha Stevens and Helmich Snijders Schools at Good News Baptist Church in St. Peters on December 8.
The ceremony was guided by Mistress of Ceremonies B. Sprott-Mussington, Superintendent of the schools. It was a joyous occasion filled with reflections on the 45 years, the accomplishments and celebrations of the schools.
Founder and Chief Executive Director G. Asha Stevens addressed the crowd, taking a trip down memory lane, citing the challenges the schools faced at the very start. She spoke proudly of the two state-of-the-art Digikidz school buildings the foundation currently manages.
Governor Eugene Holiday addressed the gathering of parents, teachers, staff and pupils. He spoke about the importance the institution has in the community, as education is crucial for the progress of St. Maarten. He congratulated the founders, staff and pupils on the achievement.
Anniversary celebrations will continue throughout the week with a sports day for cycle 2 pupils at Raoul Illidge Sports Complex in Cay Hill on December 11. The celebration comes to an end on December 13 with a parade with pupils of both schools at Asha Stevens Campus starting 9:00am. The parade will travel down Jackal Road, turn left on Welgelegen Road, turn right onto A.J.C. Brouwer Road and back to Raoul Illidge Sports Complex.
