PHILIPSBURG--Detainees of the Pointe Blanche prison and Miss Lalie Youth Care and Rehabilitation Centre will no longer be able to receive visitors, said Justice Minister Egbert Doran at the live Council of Ministers press briefing on Wednesday morning. This measure has been put in place to mitigate inmates being exposed to coronavirus COVID-19.
“Alternatives will be put in place for inmates to communicate with their relatives and their legal representatives. All non-urgent emergency visits will also be halted at this time … We are looking for a digital way to organise the communication between the inmates and their families and lawyers,” said Doran.
He also said the guards at these facilities are taking precautionary measures “in terms of general hygiene.”
