Junior Parade this Saturday

PHILIPSBURG--The Junior Carnival Parade will be held on Saturday, April 8, reminded St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) on Tuesday. The foundation expects a small but lively parade for children, which, because of how late Easter is falling, has to be held much earlier than usual.

All troupes will begin gathering at John Cooper/José Lake Ballpark at 12:00 noon Saturday and the parade will kick off at 2:00pm. It will travel down L.B. Scott Road, Bush Road, over Prins Bernhard Bridge and along the Pondfill, ending at the Little League Ball Park.
SCDF decided last year not to take the Children’s Parade up Front Street and will stick to that decision this year. It explained that for small children Front Street presents too much of a problem with heat and too many obstructions for emergency services that might have to get to children quickly.
“Adults can handle heat better and know for themselves when it’s time to take a break, etc. Children are much more sensitive and often cannot tell when they are in danger with heat. Last year, Pondfill worked well for us and the children,” SCDF said.
