Lord Ahmad to visit Anguilla today, Monday and Tuesday

ANGUILLA--Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon, Minister of State at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office with responsibility for the Overseas Territories, is visiting Anguilla today, Monday, May 28, and tomorrow, Tuesday, May 29, as part of a six-day visit to the region.

During the visit Lord Ahmad will meet with Governor Tim Foy, Chief Minister Victor Banks and his ministerial team and political and civic leaders. As well as visiting the Princess Alexandra Hospital, the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School and other key institutions, Lord Ahmad will tour the National Emergency Operations Centre and meet with the National Disaster Management Committee to discuss plans for the upcoming hurricane season.

Speaking ahead of the visit, Lord Tariq Ahmad said, “I am coming to Anguilla to see for myself the vital work underway right now to help the recovery efforts here and will be meeting the National Disaster Management Committee members, the government and Anguillans who have played a key role in helping to rebuild their communities. I will also have key meetings on the economy and finance, which I hope will help us to find a way to work together to boost the Anguillan economy.”

Representatives from the British Caribbean Chamber of Commerce and the Caribbean Council are travelling with the Minister and will also engage in a full range of meetings focusing on economic development.
