PHILIPSBURG--The crew of Teen Times will host their 21st annual Prom Night at Jungle Club SXM in Simpson Bay on July 1 for all high school seniors of St. Maarten. Prom Night, an exclusive strictly-black-tie affair, is meant as a last grand celebration for high school seniors before they leave the island to further their studies abroad.

First held in 1997, the event has grown to be one of the most anticipated end-of-the-schoolyear events for students who have finished their high school tenures. Invited are seniors from St. Dominic High School, Milton Peters College, St. Maarten Academy PSVE, Sundial School, St. Maarten Vocational School, Charlotte Brookson Academy for the Performance Arts, Learning Unlimited Preparatory School, Caribbean International Academy, Methodist Agogic Centre High School and the French-side high schools.

The event is exclusively for these students, who in turn can bring whomever they choose to the prom (does not have to be a senior).

There was some concern that Teen Times would not be able to host Prom after the devastation of the customary Prom venues by Hurricane Irma. “Thankfully, we were able to find a suitable location at Jungle Club SXM and keep our streak of consecutive years hosting Prom going,” said Teen Times coordinator Roosje Rommy-Richardson.

She said the girls are having their dresses bought or made, the guys are trying to keep pace and, despite a difficult year after the storms, the overall excitement is at its usual high for Prom.

“Our theme his year is ‘Gods and Goddesses,’ our deejay is St. Maarten’s best in the person of the Cut Creator DJ Outkast, and all we need the students to bring is their Prom spirit to create great memories for a night you only get once,” she said.

As is customary, students can look forward to the crowning of a Prom King and Queen (or in this case Prom God and Goddess for 2018), Prom Prince and Princess, Best Dress, Best Suit and Best Couple.

Entrance price for the Prom is US $20 per student. Prom begins at 7:00pm and runs until 1:00am.
