CAY HILL--The Mental Health Foundation (MHF) building’s exterior was painted and upgraded over the past week. The facility at Leopard Road had not been improved since the foundation moved there in 2011.
This project was past due, as the exterior paint had deteriorated over the years and was in such a bad state that the staff believed it had a negative impact on them and – most importantly – the patients’ experience.
The poor exterior also drew the attention of Marvel Painting owner Marvel McKenzie, who contacted the foundation with the message he and his team would paint the complex as a donation to help out.
The Mental Health Foundation’s management and staff thanked the persons and organisations that made the upgrade possible: Marvel Painting B.V. and the team who donated more than a week of their time to power-wash, prime and paint the entire exterior.
Sherwin-Williams sponsored paint and painting materials. A&A Supplies donated paint in 2016 that will be used to upgrade the interior during the coming weeks and months.
MHF continues to be the leading secondary health care provider in mental health in St. Maarten and has been operational since 2006.
It currently has seven care products – clinic care, crisis management, psychiatric home health care, day treatment centre, short-stay/long-stay apartments, admission ward, information and prevention – and supporting departments such as administration, facilities (kitchen, cleaning, maintenance and security) and human resources that work diligently for the community’s mental health concerns.
MHF, a non-profit foundation, provides psychiatric and psychological care to more than 1,000 inhabitants of St. Maarten, a significant number that is still growing.
