PHILIPSBURG--Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure VROMI Minister Chris Wever recently attended Green Initiatives’ monthly meeting, where he was updated on projects on which the group is working.

Green Initiatives is a group comprising 16 environmentally-friendly businesses and non-profit organisations in St. Maarten/St. Martin. The group was created in January 2018 with the goal to collaborate on tackling environmental and sustainability issues on the island.

Wever was introduced to those present and was told about initiatives on which the group is working. The group also discussed possible future collaboration with VROMI. Wever also used the opportunity to inform the group about the upcoming government clean-up and recycling campaign, which he said will be launched soon.

Wever was also briefed on the results of Anne Molenaar’s study of Simpson Bay Lagoon, which was sponsored by the Towle Foundation and Environmental Protection in the Caribbean (EPIC) Foundation. He was also informed about Green Initiatives’ Call for Action to ban single-use plastics in St. Maarten.
