Motorcycle rider fractures jaw, arm, nose in accident

COLE BAY--A motorcycle rider fractured his jaw, his right arm and nose, and suffered a wound to his neck in a “serious” accident on Welfare Road around 11:25pm Thursday.

Police spokesperson Chief Inspector Ricardo Henson said in a press release that the accident had occurred when the driver of a motorcycle without licence plates collided with Taxi 46.

According to Henson, the taxi, which was being driven on Welfare Road towards Cole Bay, made “an abrupt” left turn without giving the oncoming motorcycle the right of way, causing the motorcycle to collide with the taxi. The incident occurred in the vicinity of Puerto Del Sol in Cole Bay.

The injured motorbike rider was treated on the scene by paramedics and then transported to St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) for further treatment. The victim remains admitted for observation. The Police Traffic Department is investigating the incident.
