HARBOUR VIEW--Residents who are accepted to become Dutch citizens, but could not take the oath to king and country due to the curfew and damage caused by Hurricane Irma will have to opportunity to do so on Wednesday, October 18.
All persons with an invitation to the postponed September 14 Naturalization Ceremony must report personally to the Consular Department of the Cabinet of the Governor prior to Friday, October 13, with the invitation letter and valid identification card or current passport. The Department is opened Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 11:00am.

Dutch nationality law is based primarily on the principle of “Jus sanguinis (right of blood)” and is governed by the Kingdom Act on the Netherlands nationality. Thus, citizenship is conferred primarily by birth to a Dutch parent, irrespective of place of birth. Children born in the Netherlands to two foreign parents do not acquire Dutch citizenship at birth, unless special criteria are met.
