A memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Mental Health Foundation (MHF) and American University of the Caribbean (AUC) School of Medicine was signed on Wednesday, June 13, in a combined effort to provide quality psychiatric care in St. Maarten.
The terms of the MOU involve crisis management in cases where an AUC community member needs emergency mental health care; access to care – AUC community members’ time between the intake meeting and the psychiatrist is reduced; and AUC community members requiring prescription refills being first evaluated by the psychiatrist before medication is automatically renewed. AUC Dean Heidi Chumley said the signing was an excellent example of the new joint coordination and cooperation between the two organisations in enhancing the quality of psychiatric care to AUC. community members on-island. Chumley, AUC Senior Administrator for Campus Operations Hazarie Ramoutar, MHF Nurse Daylinda Sevilla and MHF Executive Assistant Cyrille Brooks witnessed the signing.
