SURFACE WINDS: 
This afternoon through Friday midday: Easterly with moderate to strong breeze of 15 to 25 miles per hour, with higher gusts up to 30 miles per hour.

SYNOPSIS: 

As Tropical Storm Matthew continues to move away from the local region, effects of the storm will continue to decrease. Thus, the weather pattern will gradually improve with decreased cloudiness and chance for showers. However, gusty winds are expected to persist throughout the day.

Hence, the small craft warning remains in effect for St. Maarten due to hazardous seas. Small craft operators and coastal residents are advised to continue protecting life and property.

STATE OF THE SEA: Rough to very rough          WAVES/SWELLS: 10 to 14 feet

SPECIAL FEATURE:  At 11am, the center of Tropical Storm Matthew was located about 340 miles southwest of St. Maarten and is moving toward the west near 15 mph with maximum sustained winds of 70 mph. On this forecast track, the center of Matthew will continue to move away from the local region.
Matthew is forecast to strengthen further and may become a hurricane by tonight.

OUTLOOK through Saturday morning: Gradual improvement with decreasing clouds and showers.
