Princess Juliana International Airport operating company PJIAE has a body-temperature scanner at the entrance of the airport’s arrivals hall. According to Collective Prevention Services (CPS) guidelines, persons with temperatures of 38 degrees Celsius or higher should be flagged because they could possibly have a fever.
According to PJIAE, the equipment can detect temperatures up to eight metres away and is safe for airport front-line staff. While the Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour VSA said in early July that this technology would be manned by CPS staff, PJIAE said on Friday that its staff members are operating the equipment. Reports also indicate that it is not being used on all incoming passengers, as travellers from the neighbouring islands have passed through the airport without being screened on arrival.
