SHTA launches survey to assess economic impact of COVID-19

PHILIPSBURG--St. Maarten Hospitality and Trade Association (SHTA) has launched a business survey in an effort to assess the economic damage for St. Maarten in the wake of the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.

The assessment is meant to make an as-accurate-as-possible estimate of economic damage done by the pandemic, SHTA said in a press release on Friday.

“Contributions are welcomed from both member and non-member companies, as the association sees any contribution as help to our collective economic wellbeing and national interest,” it was stated in the release.

In conjunction with other business associations, SHTA has directly started working on assessing what the economic fallout could be over a three-month and a six-month timeframe. It welcomes associations like those of tour and taxi operators, (para)medical associations and others to join and fill out the survey.

  The survey (website address:

shta.com/survey-covid19) is accessible for any business that has not yet contributed. Submissions are anonymous and will be used only in amalgamated settings per (broad) sector, SHTA said.

Together, SHTA and fellow associations represent 70 per cent of the employed in the private sector. The association stresses that the more accurate the analysis will be, the better the country will be able to prepare befitting solutions.

SHTA and its partner associations call on members and non-members to share the link with their business contacts. The research will be updated daily, and results will be shared by the
