Some emergency homes, land transfered to SMHDF

BELVEDERE--The first 31 of 200 mobile homes were recently transferred via notarial deed to St. Maarten Housing and Development Foundation (SMHDF) in keeping with a 1997 agreement signed by the Dutch Government, St. Maarten Government and SMHDF. The transfer of the homes and 15,920 square metres of land have a combined value of US $2,629,000.

Public Housing Minister of VROMI Angel Meyers signed over the houses and land to the Foundation.

The Foundation is now owner of the largest remaining property of the country. The land situated in Foga will be developed as “The Alamanda Estates at Foga.” The property of old Upper Prince’s Quarter Hotel was also transferred to the Foundation by Meyers.

The properties provided by Government will be part of an extensive five-year programme launched by the Foundation.

The Foundation was established in 1996 with the objective to provide affordable, quality and suitable housing.
