ST. EUSTATIUS--On Thursday afternoon, the community of St. Eustatius said goodbye to Commander Ernest Johan Patrick, also known as “Bara,” who served in the Statia Police Corps for many years.

He passed away at the age of 65 two weeks ago. Patrick was one of the founders of Voluntary Korps St. Eustatius VKS, in which he rose to the rank of Commander.

The farewell service at St. Eustatius Roman Catholic Church was attended by many family members and other persons.

“He was the best uncle I ever had,” said 14-year-old great nephew Reginald Gibbs. And he is the best uncle I will ever have.”
