ST. EUSTATIUS--New State Secretary of Kingdom Relations and Digitisation Alexandra van Huffelen arrived in St. Eustatius on Sunday, February 20, for her first official visit to the island as a Dutch government official.

Van Huffelen’s delegation was welcomed at F.D. Roosevelt Airport by Government Commissioner Alida Francis, Deputy Government Commissioner Claudia Toet and Protocol Officer Mercedes Lopes-Spanner.

Francis gave Van Huffelen a brief tour of the airport’s new arrival hall and provided her with some background information.

The new airport terminal and control tower were opened in 2021.

During her visit, Van Huffelen is expected to sit down with the commissioners and later on with the members of the Island Council, representatives of the Housing Foundation, St. Eustatius National Parks Foundation STENAPA, persons from the community and other relevant stakeholders.

Van Huffelen’s visit is to allow her to familiarise herself with Statia and with the other islands in the Dutch Caribbean. She will travel to Saba on Tuesday, February 22.
