ST. EUSTATIUS--The Dominicano Association in St. Eustatius has been continuing the tradition of decorating historical Wilhelmina Park for the Christmas and holiday season for the past sixteen years. A cross-section of the community came out to take part in this year’s tree-lighting festivities on Sunday, December 6.

Dominicano Association member Milindy Lara-Reyes said that because of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the association decorated the park this year in a low-key manner, because “we did not know if you could invest or if we would have the chance to have this celebration.”
Association members came together despite the pandemic and decorated the park in wonderful lights and decorations to keep the tradition going.
Snacks and drinks, including the traditional tea, were served and the attendees sang along with the string band playing traditional, native and secular Christmas songs. The event also featured a disc jockey.
The park features exercise equipment which was used by persons during the celebration as they exercised and partied at the same time.
