Two supermarket robberies Tuesday

PHILIPSBURG--Police are investigating two separate armed robberies that took place this past Tuesday.

  The first robbery took place at Wing Da Supermarket in Nazareth at 3:25pm where two unknown men with their faces covered stormed into the establishment. One of these men possessed a firearm. While threatening the cashier with his weapon, an undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the register. After committing this act, the suspects fled the scene.

  The other robbery took place at Victory Supermarket the A.Th. Illidge Road/Arch Road junction at approximately 10:25pm. Two men entered the store with their faces covered,  one with a gun in his hand threatening the cashier, stole an undisclosed amount of cash and two cellular telephones, then fled on foot toward the Philipsburg via the area behind the Zoo.

  The police patrol responded quickly and was successful in arresting one suspect. At the time of the arrest the suspect S.G.C. (20) possessed stolen items from the supermarket. These items were confiscated. The suspect is in custody for further investigation.
