Antigua and Barbuda to collaborate with UAE on Green Barbuda Project

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates--Antigua and Barbuda Prime Minister Gaston Browne, who is on a visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), held a bilateral discussion on Monday with Dr. Thani Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment for the UAE.


During the meeting, Al Zeyoudi thanked Browne for his participation in the World Government Summit, and offered his concern to the Government and people of Antigua and Barbuda regarding the devastation caused by Hurricane Irma.
Browne thanked Al Zeyoudi for his kind words and emphasised the strength and cooperation between both countries. The Prime Minister also thanked the UAE Government for the EC $10 million pledged to the region after the destruction of the hurricanes, particularly the amount pledged to Barbuda.
Browne also thanked the UAE for the approval of the EC $3.1 million pledge last year for the Green Barbuda Project. He noted the ongoing challenges regarding a green Barbuda and the setback the hurricanes had caused in advancing the project. Al Zeyoudi indicated his country’s willingness to assist in this regard.
Browne was scheduled to hold bilateral meetings on Tuesday, with Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktum, as well as with Minister of State for International Cooperation, Reem Al Hashimy. ~ Caribbean News Now! ~
