PARAMARIBO--Three rappers from The Hague have been arrested in Suriname, in connection with a sexual abuse case.
The young men, identified as Frenna, Priceless and KM of rap group SFB (Strictly Family Business), are under suspicion of group sex with an underage girl in Paramaribo last year. They then shared video footage of their sexual misconduct on social media.
The rappers were arrested at their hotel in Paramaribo on Thursday evening, shortly after performing at a festival with several other Dutch rappers.
The Ghana-born Frenna, whose real name is Francis Edusei, had released a new track shortly before being taken into custody. The 25-year-old Frenna, the most popular of the bunch, now famously said in an interview with Dutch daily Volkskrant earlier this month that he thought Holland owed rappers more than it was giving them. “In America large companies embrace rappers. In Ghana Pepsi hires them for commercials. Not here,” he said, complaining that radio stations would rather treat other artists as mainstream.
Police have not yet released a formal statement on the case.
The fourth member Jandro, who was not arrested, seemed to believe that his fellow rappers were being wronged by the Suriname police. “Why is the police always out to get us, even when we are abroad? That is why people should not ask why I hate everything that’s wearing a uniform,” he tweeted.
