Hundreds participate in World Children’s Day Awareness Walk

GEORGEOWN, Guyana--Minister of State Dawn Hastings-Williams on Sunday joined representatives, supporters and other well-wishers of the Give Another Chance Foundation (GACF) in their Second Annual World Children’s Day Awareness Walk and pop-up festival

.  The GACF aims to provide basic education from pre-school to university, health care and community support to underprivileged children and youths in rural and urban areas. The group believes that one of the best places to start addressing matters of health care, suicide prevention, poverty, population control, unemployment and human rights is in the corridors of education.

This year’s festival was themed, “Promoting children’s well-being, children’s rights and SDGs.” It honoured the United Nations’ “Universal Children’s Day,” which will be observed on November 20, and recognised the “Convention on the Rights of the Child.”

The walkathon started at the Parliament Building, proceeded east along Brickdam, turned North onto Vlissengen Road, East onto Homestretch Avenue and into D’Urban Park, where the festival was held. ~Guyana Times
