ST. PETERS--The Academy 3x3 Basketball team represented Sint Maarten at the Interinsular Games in Bonaire and returned home as champions. The team played seven matches in total and remained undefeated, winning all five official games against Saba, Statia, Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao. Sint Maarten beat Curaçao in the semi-finals (16 - 5) and secured the title with a final win against Statia (22 -13). Their success was further highlighted by the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, which was deservedly earned by Kewandy Jacquet.
From their first game, the team found their rhythm and stayed consistent throughout the tournament. Each game brought different challenges, but the players stayed focused, adapted to their opponents, and worked well together on the court. Off the court, players from different islands built strong bonds, showing the spirit of the games beyond competition. The team’s success was the result of hard work in training and continued guidance from their coach.
This win is a proud moment for school basketball in Sint Maarten, and we hope it encourages more students to get involved in future tournaments said Jacky Browne, Sports Coordinator at the National Sports Institute.
