COLE BAY--Carib Swim Team, along with long-time sponsor Ballerina Jewelers, hosted the annual Sweetheart Class Swim Meet on February 12-13. Although it was the first meet of the new year for most of the swimmers, most swimmers came away with great starting places for the rest of the year.
Nine new Carib Swim Team records were set. Nikki Grandtner (14 years) broke the record in 100 backstroke with 1:17.30. Joey Schvartz (12 years) managed three new records (200 backstroke – 2:35.33, 200 butterfly – 2:41.94, and 200 IM – 2:31.54). Finally, Matias Piazza (14 years) reset five team records (400 free – 4:43.27, 50 butterfly – 29.18, 100 butterfly – 1:04.77, 200 butterfly 2:36.40, and 200 IM – 2:28.93).
Several new time standards were met as well. New ‘B’ times were achieved by Aiyana Bourne, D’Anka Burgan, Gigi Cai, Carly Critchlow, Nikki Grandtner, Arianna Lont, Rylan Benjamin, Declan Boyd, and Patrick Szabo.
New ‘BB’ times were earned by Nikki Grandtner, Darina Smirnova, Nicolas Piazza, Kjeld Van Der Meer, and Saphir Thomas.
New ‘A’ Times were swum by Joey Schvartz and Saphir Thomas. Finally, Joey also earned a new ‘AA’ time and a new ‘AAA’ time.
Other Carib Swim Team event winners were Arianna Lont, Diego Ramos, Gigi Cai, Denecia Prince, Quentin Guyenot, Nihal Chugani, Ashlee-Marie Daniel, Mathys Fleming, Brandon Girier Dufournier, Lennox Van Kooten, Adaya Bourne, Akayla Ally, Simon Creusot, Nila Benjamin, Sacha Tobias, Philip Chang Sing Pang, Aurelie Desir, and Caithlyn Challenger.
Super Splash Swim Team also participated, and had event winners with Maik Croes and Miguel Febres-Gonzalez.
