Curaçao lose 1-0 away to Barbados

BARBADOS—British Premier League (BPL) footballer Cuco Martina suffered defeat with Curaçao in their opening game of Caribbean Cup qualification, as they lost 1-0 away to Barbados.

FC Southampton Saints defender Martina captained his side at the Usain Bolt Sports Complex, in Bridgetown, but could not prevent them falling to a defeat.

Curaçao had the upper hand for most of the match, but could not find a way through, as Romario Harewood's scrambled goal in the second half decided the tie.

Martina and his teammates now travel home ahead of their next qualifier, against Dominican Republic, at the Ergilio Hato Stadium, in Willemstad on Sunday. They will need to avoid a defeat in order to maintain their chances of reaching the second round of qualification, with only the top two teams from each group of three advancing beyond the initial phase.
