PORT DE PLAISANCE—The J122 “El Ocaso” from the UK won the coveted Most Worthy Performance of the Regatta trophy from Prime Minister Luc Mercelina last night at the awards ceremony as the 45th St. Maarten Heineken Regatta came to a close. President of Seiko USA also presented El Ocaso with a timepiece.
The Diam 24 “Zee Best” with a French super star team won the Fastest Multihull Around the Island in a time of 2 hours 29: 16 receiving the Port St. Maarten trophy. They also won the Randy West Trophy. Second place Diam “Opteamwork.dev” won Most Worthy Performance on Saturday.
Minister of Tourism TEATT Grisha Heyliger-Marten presented “Cara” from Bareboat 2 with the Columbus Cup. They also won Most Worthy Performance on Sunday, receiving the Sint Maarten Yacht Club trophy from Commodore Frits Bus.
The Fastest Bareboat around the island award presented by St. Maarten Tourism Bureau’s William Bell went to “Joyi”, in a time of 3 hours 34: 15. The Fastest Non Spinnaker boat around the island went to Kialoa III. The Fastest Spinnaker boat around the island went to “Selma Racing” who received the Windward Island Bank (WIB) trophy.
Member of Parliament (MP) Ludmilla de Weever presented the Youth Award to the young crew of the Melges 24 “Caraïbes Diesel.” The Robbie Ferron Trophy went to veteran International Judge, Pat Bailey from St. Thomas.
The Melges 24 class was won by Frits Bus’s “Island Water World” and the Sunfast 20 class by Garth Steyn on “IGY Racing”. “Beautiful Day” received a prize for being the 45th boat to register for the regatta.
