MARIGOT—Florencia Hunt recently won the Figure Pro category and overall honours at the New York State National Championship, an Organisation of Competitive Bodybuilders (OCB)-sanctioned event, on November 12 in Syracuse, New York. It was the last all-female Pro Show for the season.
“My coach Jimmy Leach really got it together this time as we had been making adjustments to get a better package,” Florencia, now based in North Carolina, said of her latest success. “This has been the best package he has got together for me to date and I thank him for the work he has done.”
“I was quite stressed actually this time as it was a late show in the afternoon,” she added. “You hope that with all that preparation your body holds up.”
She said competing this season with COVID-19 has been a real challenge.
“Only a few people had to be in the building at once, you couldn’t even go in as a spectator, athletes had to go straight from the venue to their room, restrictions on where and when to eat. It was very different…very challenging. Everything was done on line.”
Asked how strange that must be not to have a physical audience, cheering you on, she replied: “It didn’t really affect me because I’m self-driven, audience or not. I come into the event to execute and I need to see myself through that. I focus more on the judges than the audience. Again, it was different and very quiet.”
Her plans for next season are still uncertain. As an International Federation of Bodybuilders (IFBB) Pro she says she would like to step on stage with IFBB Pros and that could come about under the two federations she falls under.
“But who knows….I might even change sports and go back to track and field and compete in Masters,” she said with laugh. “Really, I’m thinking about running in Masters. I don’t have an event in mind yet but I’m a spontaneous person, I’ve got nothing to lose.”
For now Florencia will have a well-earned rest. She is looking forward to coming home to St. Martin for the Christmas holidays.
