International Women’s Tennis Tournament to start Sunday

MARIGOT—The 7th International Women’s Tennis tournament is set to get under way this coming Sunday, January 24, with qualifying rounds on Sunday and Monday.


  The International Tennis Federation (ITF)-sanctioned tournament is offering US$10,000 in total prize money and takes place again at the Alberic Richards Stadium courts. It is organised by Tennis Club Ile de St. Martin.
  Some 32 female players from all around the world are contesting the tournament, the main objective of which is to earn ranking points.
  The top seed is France’s Irina Ramialison, ranked 329 in the world, who just recently won the tournament in Martinique.
  Some of the players who competed in the event in St. Martin in previous years are returning, including France’s Brandy Mina who won Doubles titles in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014.
  Tournament officials will include international referee and umpire Stéphane Apostolou who has officiated at the tournament several times before.
  Tennis lovers are encouraged to come out and watch the high quality tennis. The tournament ends on Sunday, January 31, with the Singles final and prize giving.
