SENART, FRANCE—Netherlands defeated France 3-2 in final of the Yoshiba Baseball Tournament Tuesday. It was the first defeat for the French team as they prepare for the European Championship.
On the French team are Rene Leveret, Felix Brown and Omar Williams from the Friendly Island. The Caribbean trio had led the team to wins over Belgium, Japan and Netherlands.
In the final France scored first. "I lead off the fourth inning with a double," said Leveret from South Reward but who was born on the French side of the Island. "Omar hit a line drive to left and I scored."
"They (the Netherlands) took away the game from us in the eighth inning," said Leveret. Netherlands scored three runs.
"In the ninth I led the inning off ," said Leveret a professional ball players for the Quebec Capitals in the Canadian American League. "The count was 0-balls 2-strikes and the next pitch I hit my sixth homerun of the tournament in five games. But it was not enough."
The French National Baseball team is off to Germany to compete in the European Championship.
