National Baseball team set to play

POND ISLAND—The St. Maarten national baseball Team will play a free exhibition game at the Little League Ballpark on Pond Island Sunday. First pitch is set for 11:00am.


  The team has been practicing hard three days a week and the training is about to intensify.
  “We need to prepare this group of players for Barranquilla, Colombia for July 2018,” said Tony Rombley, Technical director of the St. Maarten Baseball Federation. “We are preparing for the Pan-American Games, said Rombley.  “This is a whole new level of play. For example, all players will be tested for performance enhancing and recreational drugs.”
  The team is open to players age 16 to 26. The group is training three days a week, will play two games a week and is on a 14 month long program.
  “This level is a professional level baseball,” said Rombley. “All the countries that are in this competition are well prepared.”

Richards, Denzel Brooks, Martell Hartley, Rashid Maccow, Andri Millet,                                                    
Jhamal Constance, Chayenne Carty, Jaylen Constance, Leshawn Brown,
Alewis  Junior Peterson, David Van Heyningen, Rene Mota, Jason Vasquez,
Lenrick Pinto, Denzel Richardson, Treshanah Cosaque, Anthony Skeete,
Luis Gonzalez, Nigel Thomas, Ariel Pierre Gabriel, Omar Williams, Randolf Williams, Denroy Gumbs, Raoul Jacobs, Denzel Maccow, Eddiricio Brooks, Quincy Duran, Breany Gonzales, Alex Martis, Giovanni Gibs, Julio Meyers, Marc Ramieris, Elrick Martina and Cedric Kirindongo.
  The team will train Friday evening starting at 7:00pm in preparation for the game.
