Over 130 participants take part in “Les Points de Vue” race in Marigot

MARIGOT—Over 130 runners and walkers took part in the 2021 edition of “Les Point de Vue de Marigot” race organised by SXtreme Runners Club on Sunday. The race is so called because it takes runners to some of the highest points around Marigot before finishing at the top of Fort Louis for well-earned refreshment and prizes—and the only moment to enjoy the views.

Not for the faint hearted, this is a race that includes some steep lung-busting climbs. Two distances were on offer, a 12K Run, 9K Run and a 9K walk, all three of which finished at the top of Fort Louis. Some 44 runners took part in the 12K, 49 in the 9K and 39 walkers.
Runners in the 12K race had to climb up to the water reservoir in Concordia. Anyone who doesn’t know this long climb on a now paved road is met with an even steeper gradient for the last few metres to the reservoir. If that wasn’t enough, runners in this category had to negotiate a steep hill (also paved) in Friar’s Bay before returning to Marigot and the final climb up to Fort Louis.
The 12K race was won by Omarco Robinson in 50:51, Jeannot Gouin from Inter-Generation runners capitalised on his success in the St. Barths half marathon with another second place in 53:54. SXM Tri Academie’s Gregoire Pigeon was third in 54:26.
Other notable results from the 12K were former French local journalist Hughes Mercader in 10th place (1:01:21), Paul Melskens 14th place (1:03:18), St. Maarten Road Runners coach Krispijn Teunissen in 16th place (1:04:02) and Frits Bus 34th place in 1:15:52. Agnes Puigcerver was the first female to finish in 22nd place (1:05:2).
The 9K race was won by Peter Leonard in 40:16, Manuel Luzon Genao was second (40:32) and third place went to Maxime Kruszewska (42: 13).
A lot of women opted for the 9K walk which was won by Jean-Marc Aubry in 1:05:37. Fred Houilliez was second in 1:08:28 and in third place was Anne Jacques, first female, in 1:08:52.
The race was made possible by Super U, La Boite a Thé SXM, Quiksilver, Tri Sport, Gedimat Service, Service Jeunesse et Sport from the Collectivité, Préfecture, Le Taitu Restaurant, Clim Caribbean System, and the Gendarmerie sports club.
