QUEBEC--Pro-baseball player Rene Leveret from South Reward is in France. He is one of three baseball players from the Friendly Island to make the French National Team that will play two international tournaments in September. Also on the Squad are Omar Williams and Felix Brown. The trio will compete first in the Czech Republic September 4 to 9 and later in the month in Germany.
Leveret plays professionally for the Quebec Capitals in the Canadian American League. Leveret played in 93 games, had 337 at bats and averaged .261. He connected for 88 hits including 11 doubles and eight home runs. He scored 39 runs and batted in 44. The Capitals finished the season in third place going 46-50. The Rockland Boulders lead the league at 56-40.
"For the first time in five years, we did not make the playoff or finals," said Leveret, who has gotten used to collecting championship rings with the team.
During the season, Leveret and his team worked with the island's Tourism Office to promote the island. Banners were placed in the stadium and the team even featured a St. Maarten themed night.
