PHILIPSBURG—The highly excited inter-elementary school netball tournament enters the crucial stage as teams strive for a spot in the playoffs.
There is a record 11 schools in the tournament. The schools are placed into two groups. In Group A are MAC-Rev. John A. Gumbs Campus, Marie Genevieve De Weever Primary, Leonald Connor Primary, St. Dominic Primary and Ruby Labega Primary. The teams in Group B are Hillside Christian Primary, Sister Borgia Primary, St. Joseph Primary, MAC-Browlia F. Maillard Campus, Sister Regina Primary and Sister Magda Primary. The teams in each group will play one another once. The teams are scheduled their last set of preliminary matches on March 23 beginning from 3:00pm at the L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium.
The final rounds of matches shows MAC-Browlia F. Maillard Campus against Sister Borgia from 3:00pm, Hillside Christian against St. Joseph from 3:45, Marie Genevieve De Weever versus Ruby Labega from 4:30pm, Sister Magda versus MAC-Browlia F. Maillard from 5:15pm and Marie Genevieve De Weever against Leonald Connor from 6:00pm.
March 30 is Championship Day. On that day, the team in 10th position will take on the 9th placed team, 7th place will take on 8th, 6th place will do battle with 5th place, 3rd place will match skills with 4th place and the championship match will be between the 1st placed and 2nd place.
So far, MAC-Rev. John A. Gumbs Campus and Hillside Christian have been unbeaten in Group A and Group B, respectively. If they remain unbeaten, the two teams will clash in the championship match.
The sports auditorium has been nearly packed to capacity with schoolmates, parents and well wishers showing loud and boisterous support for their team.
