St. Maarten Aquatic Federation hosts camp in preparation of FINA World Aquatics Day

COLE BAY--The St. Maarten Aquatic Federation (SMAF) in collaboration with FINA World Aquatics Day launched an island wide swim training camp at the Carib Swim Pool in Cole Bay on May 7.

The camp will be providing training for approximately 40 of our island’s best swimmers who are registered among the three SMAF teams. The teams are: The Carib Swim Team, The St. Maarten Dolphin Swim Club and the St. Maarten Super Slash Swim Team.
This event is the first of its kind for SMAF and will cater for children and teens alike, with training for children 11 – 12 years-old from 4:30 pm – 5:30 pm and swimmers 13 years and above from 5:30pm – 6:30 pm.
“This initiative has two objectives for us as a Federation,” Steve Leal; Event Project Leader explained. “Through this training camp, we will hone the skills of our local swimmers and as a Federation we will also be able to use this as a precursor to attend the Swimming Camp being held in Curacao in October.”
Leal explained that SMAF will also be actively participating in FINA World Aquatics Day Celebration, which is an international day recognizing physical activity in aquatic sports and takes place on the first weekend of July.
“We are proud of our swimmers and will continue to work towards getting them to an international stage, it is for this reason that all our events are geared towards creating strong swimmers and providing opportunities for our special needs swimmers as well to grow in the sport,” Leal added.
