GRAND CASE—ASM’s Dyclai Grell fell just short by half a wheel length from winning his second Territorial Cycling Committee race on Sunday, when he was outsprinted to the finish line by VCSG’s Alexander Brooks in the 14-lap Cadet’s race.
Brooks (15) was joined on the podium by team mate Jahkim Carty in third place as the youngest Cadet.
“Alexander is strong in the sprint and I wanted to see how he would do and he gave me a good result,” said a pleased VCSG Coach, Patricio “Blade” Carty. “All our riders are showing strong potential and we continue to build a talented team.”
Carty himself appeared to have committed an infringement by feeding his riders out of the permitted zone on laps four, 10 and the last lap and although organisers noted the infringement in the results Carty said he had not been approached about it by officials.
Sunday’s race was marked this time by a much stronger than usual headwind on the RN7 by-pass adding to the heat and three short hills in Cul-de-Sac which no doubt contributed to sapping the energy of the riders, causing 13 to abandon.
The women’s race (10 laps) was won by Isabelle Adams with Raymonde Gumbs in second and Annee Blaum third. Juniors, women, and seniors were grouped together following the Cadet race.
The seniors (16 laps) saw visiting Guadeloupe rider Freddy Hamlet ( ASCESM/SCL) take the win with St. Martin team mate Wilson Sanon (ASCESM/SCL) in second and ASM’s Martin Cassey in third. Mark Maidwell was fifth and Tri Sport Tiger’s Dean Hodge in sixth.
