Your dentist should not be upset if you are cavity-free and neither should your doctor be upset if you are healthy. Having said that, let us agree that Natural Health is not about avoiding doctors; in fact, it is not even about not needing to go to doctors. Too often, however, the most obvious natural beneficial products are neglected in favour of more complicated and sometimes harmful modern application of medical care. The purpose of this column is to provide us with guidelines that will hopefully do more than help "fix" the parts that don't work. We want to ensure that you get the longest life and best use from the only body you will ever have. So let's get started!

Our first question and likely one of the most common: Why can't I get all of my daily nutrients from food?

Not so fast. Even if you do eat the recommended servings of fruits and vegetables per day; only feed on healthy, grass-fed meats, free-range chickens and cold water fish, limit your refined carbs, and don't overdo it on sugars, alcohol and the rest; you're still not getting all the nutrients your body requires.

A good diet is definitely a good start, but here's the problem. Many of the foods today that should have a dash or hint of vitamins and minerals really don't. The soil that grow our fruits and vegetable has been terribly sapped , and many of these "half breed" forms of apples, oranges, tomatoes, carrots and the like, have actually sacrificed nutrients for the sake of mass production, easier shipping and even pretty looks.

Aside from this is the fact that even the best intentioned of us can't always maintain guarded control of our diets, especially on an island where everything is imported. So you need to get more nutrients, in meaningful amounts, from a reliable source. At the very least, this means finding a full spectrum multivitamin and mineral formula that provides nutrients at optimal dosage levels throughout the day
