Permanent Makeup by Cleopatra

If you have been considering the step of getting permanent makeup to enhance your eyes, lips or brows, you are in luck. One of the best in the business makes her home right here on The Friendly Island. Cleopatra Dayday is the artist that can give you attractive red lips, perfectly shaped eyebrows, and dynamic eyeliner that won’t smudge, wear off or sweat off in the heat of the blazing tropical sun. Permanent makeup holds the promise that you'll look great and save time all day, every day.

Cleopatra is a naturally-skilled artist with top level training with Melany Whitney from the Whitney Center for Permanent Cosmetics in Boca Raton, Florida. For more than 12 years, Cleopatra has been saving faces with her micro-pigmentation techniques. She currently operates out of the Angelic Touch Day Spa on Welfare Road near the Cole Bay Roundabout.

Micro-pigmentation is similar to getting a tattoo. It involves using a tiny needle to place medical grade pigment beneath the upper layers of the skin. Cleopatra’s materials are single use needles, each pre-packaged in sanitary bubble packs. She carefully prepares the clients ahead of the procedures, advising them to cut out all caffeine for at least two days before they come in. This keeps the blood pressure lower and makes the skin more supple for the procedure.

There is a discussion of hues, colours, shades and shapes – a chance to visualize various designs of brows – all to be decided thoughtfully and then we begin.

The tattooing procedure is begun after Cleo applies an anaesthetic to the skin. “It will take as long as it takes,” was her answer to my question. In the end, my eyeliner and brows were done in under four hours. Second pertinent question: “Is this going to hurt a lot?” “Well,” she assured me, “that depends on your pain threshold. How is this on a scale of one to 10?” The eyebrows are first to get attention, the tweezers plucking stray hairs out one by one. “Um, that’s like a one,” I lied; it was a two. So eyebrow ridges numbed and plucked, I lay on the massage table and became the canvas for Cleopatra’s meticulous artwork.

The brows take their shape without much pain. Then we start on the eyeliner. This was a bit more up the pain scale, but Cleopatra was gentle and empathetic. I had complete trust in her and we took our time. “You signed up for pain today, you know,” she teased me, then assured me that I was doing great. It takes several passes to create a smooth, fine line and the natural tendency to blink makes each step take more time, but with fists clinched around a tissue and eyes relaxed as much as I could manage, the procedure was similar to enduring dental work, which is to say, not all that bad.

When the process was finished, my eyes were quite sore, so she sent me home to rest with antibiotic ointment and instructions to take paracetemol. I could still see to drive, but opted for a ride home. The next day, I lay low, resting my eyes, as they were still sore. By the third day, as predicted, I was over most of the achiness and ready to try out my new look on all my friends. I didn’t want a drastic change, so now, a week later, it only looks like I am all made up. I love my new look and the fact that I don’t have to worry about eye makeup application nor the inevitable melting of eyeliner in the heat of the day.

Cleopatra is also certified in medical restoration, which means she can restore normal appearance after surgeries, or reduce the appearance of scars.
