Authentic German Cuisine and more
~ Bavaria...das Lecker! ~
The prize for consistency over time has to go to Bavaria German Restaurant in Simpson Bay. I remember going there a few times when I lived near the airport back in the early 90s. It's hard to understand why I never stopped by again in all these years, but time does fly as they say.
Anyway, we dropped in for a meal this week and it was just the same as I remembered: wonderful food, great beer and friendly atmosphere. Perhaps the only difference was that a wooden deck in front has been added – a nice touch as it makes the biergarten aspect very pleasant. We sat out there with the beautiful full moon hanging over us.
The place seemed to be a favourite of Simpson Bay residents; couples came and went casually, finding their favourite tables with ease. Greetings with the proprietor Annette and the waitress passed with each patron as they entered or departed.
We enjoyed ice cold bottles of German Pilsners, Calamari (delicious!), comforting pea soup and big plates of bratwurst, red cabbage, potatoes and schnitzel – all just great and served with a smile.
By the way, for those fans of German culture who look forward to the annual festival of indulgence and fun; Bavaria is your headquarters. But be aware that although they are getting ready in Germany for Oktoberfest now, Annette says she will hold her version of the celebration in November.
