Time for sustenance and chat
As we settled down for lunch, my date said, “Seriously, why have we not been here for so long?” The parking right outside the door, the lovely mega yachts filling the landscape, a definite French island vibe (just right for the Francophiles) and a very warm welcome from the wait staff were what prompted her to remark. Admittedly, we had driven back and forth looking for a spot, but then that was not surprising as it was right at peak lunch hour that we decided to go to O’Plongeoir.
One of our favourite night spots for dining out in a small group, this spot used to be frequented by us on many an occasion; however, the restrictions on drinking and driving on the French side has caused us to drastically reduce our dining on that side; we tend to head over there for lunch more these days. Lunch at O’Plongeoir is a bad idea actually as the menu is good no matter which dining hour you like to partake; they are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The cosy marine-themed sidewalk restaurant is covered. There are plenty of tables, and you can see some of the big boats and get a peek of Anguilla in the distance across the azure ocean. The menu consists of a fusion cuisine, French with Asian and Creole influences, and is moderately priced. With fresh fish available, the entrees change daily.
We had to have an old favourite to start with – Nems – that were as good as ever. Large mint leaves and crispy Nems rolled into fresh, crispy lettuce then dipped into a light sauce! What is there not to like?
The specials menu had a very intriguing suggestion: Combination of salmon grilled and stingray shepherd’s pie with a caper sauce and zucchini flan and salad. Really? That sounded excellent so I ordered it. In fact, each and every component to that plate was delicious even if the salmon was on the overcooked side for my personal taste; the flavours were out of this world.
Not being that adventurous, my date ordered from the regular menu. A delicious grilled duck breast with a potato gratin (cooked with cream and butter) and salad were placed before her. She totally inhaled her plate. So yet again, O’Plongeoir came up to scratch!
We shared a dessert; the choice was not that hard to make as we have a favourite and that is tiramisu. It was really good, needless to say.
Returning to this great eatery in the very near future is definitely on the cards.
