St. Maarten Zoological and Botanical Garden Foundation has organized an amazing fundraising in the form of a gala dinner & dance on Saturday, September 13. There is great excitement as attending guest to this auspicious event is Mr. Lamman Rucker. The movie star, who has acted in many Tyler Perry films, is an American actor, educator and activist with a genuine passion for animals.
Lamman Rucker has put his “money where his mouth is” by committing to come to St. Maarten to support this event. He truly does feel that helping good causes like that of saving the zoo will not only benefit the animals but also the children on the island. The zoological and botanical gardens are important to the island and all who live here, because they bring a first-hand education of both environmental and ecological value.
Tickets cost $150 and will cover the dinner with open bar, dance and the premiere of a movie starring the guest of the evening. The menu will be international with dishes ranging from local, Surinamese, vegetarian, salads, fish, meat (steak) and chicken in the form of an all-you-can-eat buffet. Desserts will be local bread pudding, brownies, pineapple turnovers and apple pie.
The coffee bar will offer espresso, tea and hot chocolate.
The movie is an hour and a half long and is for an adult audience. It will be shown in the movie theatres at a later date and of course DVDs will also one day be available. Get your ticket, attend the event, and you will find out the name of the movie (something must be kept as a surprise)!
Dancing will be great as the band that gets your feet tapping and your body moving will be none other than Control Band.
The evening starts at 6:30 with a Meet and Greet and the chance of a photo taken with the special guest. Dinner and a movie will start at 8:00pm followed by dancing. There will also be a silent auction in aid of St. Maarten Zoo.
Tickets can be purchased at both locations of Van Dorp and Bebe ‘n Kids, St. Maarten Veterinary Clinic, Animal Hospital and Island Pet Shop.
The “Save Our Zoo” Gala, Dinner and Dance will be held at Belair Community Centre on Saturday, September 13. Call 522-1449 for more information!
