“It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Everywhere you go;
Take a look at the five and ten
It's glistening once again
With candy canes and silver lanes aglow”
Bro! So, I was on a Google search when I read that “Christians believe that December 25 is the birthdate of Jesus Christ, hence Christmas Day.” Uh, excuse me, sir? People who do their own research beg to differ, so, please, don’t believe everything you read on Google.
Resumes a more formal tone.
Honestly, I think that Christmas is just another one of those commercial holidays. It’s up there with Halloween, Valentine Day and even Mother’s Day. “The man” takes the opportunity to generate some income, and we take the opportunity to spend some. However, as commercial and communist as it maybe, it doesn’t have to be such a bad thing.
Imagine being away at college during your birthday with no gifts, no cake and no family. Your mom calls you and says, “Don’t worry Timmy, we’ll celebrate your birthday when you come back for the Christmas Holiday.” Can you imagine how excited you would be in that moment? I would suppose that Jesus probably felt that excited as well. My birthday is in February (Aquarius stand UP!), but I’ll gladly take a birthday celebration in July if someone’s feeling generous. So, if a particular group of people want to celebrate Jesus’ birthday in December, why not? More Ponche Kuba cake for me.
We all know that we love our moms all year round, but if there was a time specifically catered to her, why shouldn’t we pamper her as commercial as it is? I see my family at various points during the year, however, if there are set dates that I know we are going to meet up, I’ll definitely look forward to those days. And you now, ANY opportunity to buy Danielle a gift is an opportunity worth taking.
Christmas maybe commercial, but I feel that if we take the time to genuinely show love and appreciation, we can take a holiday that was probably designed to line pockets and turn it into a genuine time of sharing. Or maybe I’m just too optimistic. (Inserts thinking emoji)
Merry Christmas fam. I hope you make the best of it.
