Tourism Month

SXM rocks for Caribbean Tourism Month

St. Maarten will be rocking with a number of activities this month to mark Caribbean Tourism Month.

Guests visiting our shores via Princess Juliana international Airport SXM and the Port will be greeted with live steel pan music.

Visitors will also be able to sip on complimentary samples of the locally made rum at the Guavaberry Emporium.

Several other activities were already held earlier this month.

The next activity will be an Awards Dinner Ceremony scheduled for November 14, to recognise and encourage tourism-related businesses and industry workers in the hospitality sector and thank them for their outstanding daily achievements.

A “historical school tour” for secondary school students is scheduled for November 18, to generate greater awareness amongst students about discovering the “now and then” iconic landmarks, as well as the culture and people of St. Maarten.

On November 22, a tourism walk-a-thon is planned with the aim of creating greater public awareness and understanding for the importance of tourism while preserving a healthy society. Local businesses are encouraged to wear their company’s T-shirts in support of this tourism awareness initiative.

Several young professionals in tourism will be profiled in the media.

The Tourist Bureau will also carry out tourism awareness presentations at primary and secondary schools throughout November with the objective of highlighting the importance of tourism as the main economic driver of the local economy and to inform them about tourism related careers.

A Public Service Announcement (PSA) competition will be held amongst secondary schools to develop the best 10 PSAs reminding the public about the importance of tourism being “everybody’s business.”

Banners will also be placed at strategic locations around the country congratulating visitors and residents on the occasion.
