Better than nothing

Better than nothing

The placement of a clothing recycling container at the Kooyman Megastore parking lot (see Monday paper) is an interesting initiative. It’s the work of God Bless Nurse Monique (GBNM) Nanny Nurssy Foundation made possible with help from several others including the Dutch Representation in Philipsburg VNP.

Some might wonder what good their old stuff could possibly be to others, but it’s about items that are not broken and look decent. After all, people throw away clothes and shoes for a variety of reasons including adjustments in weight or size, getting tired of the same “look” and just wanting a change.

There is also no embarrassment whatsoever in wearing such garments, provided they are in good condition. In fact, not only donating but selling and buying second-hand clothing is becoming increasingly popular globally, primarily for environmental reasons.

Besides, it regards mostly products those involved were going to dispose of anyway and even if only part of these ultimately get used, that is still a whole lot better than nothing. Taking a mere few minutes to drop them off can be big help for persons in vulnerable positions.

Always keep in mind that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
