Saba receiving no less than six Scuba Diver Readers’ Choice Awards (see related story) confirms the island’s growing popularity among diving enthusiasts. “The Unspoiled Queen” continues to show potential for particularly ecotourism, including attractive hiking options.

The same goes for so-called heritage tourism in neighbouring St. Eustatius, where the 248th edition of Statia Day, commemorating the first salute to the United Sates (US) flag by a foreign territory, was observed last Saturday. This makes the island an interesting location to visit for especially American history lovers.

“The Golden Rock” has a fascinating past in general and Oranjestad offers plenty to see and learn in that regard. This is an area where experts believe targeted marketing activities can yield significant results.

Speaking of which, November 15, 2026, will be the 250th anniversary of the first salute. Plans are underway for a grand celebration and it’s been suggested that Dutch King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima might be present.

Wouldn’t it be great if they were joined by soon US President Donald Trump? Now that’s the kind of promotion money can’t buy.
