Sense of purpose

Sense of purpose

As the 2021-2022 school year enters its final stage, the question “what next” faces secondary education exam candidates. Whether they further their academic studies, continue in vocational training, start working or even end up unemployed is to a large extent up to themselves in terms of school results, but also a matter of choice.

That’s why St. Maarten Student Support Division (SSSD) is organising a career/study workshop fair on March 31 (see related story). Those who have no clue and might therefore be hesitant about going should think again: the event is geared towards undecided students.

Inspiration can come at any time and is often triggered by impulses such as information that is unfamiliar to someone and may create a different perspective. Opening up to new ideas tends to be rewarding in that regard.

The medical field was mentioned as example where there are many vacancies since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Such practical considerations are always important too.

The reality is that quite a few high school graduates switch studies or stop, while some change jobs, etc., and there is nothing terribly wrong with that. However, a clear sense of purpose and direction has proven to be very helpful.
