PHILIPSBURG--The Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour VSA has reported another high number of new active COVID-19 cases with thirteen cases recorded on Thursday, December 3.
Even with a reported 17 recoveries, the total number of active cases is currently 87. The total number of confirmed cases is now 1,105.
Collective Prevention Services (CPS) is monitoring 83 persons in home isolation and 176 persons who are in quarantine based on contact-tracing investigations carried out by CPS of those persons who may have been in contact with any of the active cases.
Four patients are now hospitalized at St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) and the total number of deaths due to COVID-19 remains at 25.
The number of people recovered since the first case surfaced in St. Maarten has increased to 993.
The VSA Ministry’s Airport Health Team in collaboration with Health Care Laboratory St. Maarten (HCLS) has tested 1,523 travellers arriving at Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIA) and CPS has tested 7,893 persons throughout the community.
CPS assured that as the numbers continue to fluctuate, it will continue to actively execute its contact-tracing measures.
According to CPS’ epidemic EPI curve provided on Thursday, notable peaks in the number of active cases were prevalent mid-August and again in mid-November. In August the number of active cases recorded peaked at more than 20 cases on some days.
“An EPI curve is a visual display of the onset of illness among cases associated with an outbreak. The EPI curve displays an outbreak’s time trend; that is, the distribution of cases over time,” said CPS.
